Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education - Western Undergraduate Exchange
Students in Western states may enroll in participating public college programs at a reduced tuition level. States that participate include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Some institutions are on a first-come, first-served basis. While others may only offer designated programs at the discounted rate. ​

​The SD Farmers Union, in cooperation with the SD Farmers Union Foundation, takes pride in announcing the availability of scholarships to applicants whose parents are members of SD Farmers Union.
South Dakota Big Idea
Free online competition promotes entrepreneurship by allowing students to describe a business idea and, if they choose, create an ad to promote their business idea.

​The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards (NASSP National Association of Secondary School Principals)
​This program recognizes students in grades 5-12 who make meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.  Apply for a 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community Award and you could win $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C.
DAR Good Citizens Program - Please see your school counselor for application before November 1st
The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest are intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. 
The scholarship program consists of three parts:
Part I &II consist of a students personal information and a description of their qualities. These parts may be completed at home. 
Part III is a timed essay to be administered under the supervision of a faculty or DAR member. It must be completed in one sitting, within a two-hour time limit, and without assistance, using only a dictionary. Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges. The winning entry is advanced though state, division, and national levels of judging.

South Dakota State DAR Scholarship For Military Descendants
Scholarship Deadline: December 1, 2025
The SD State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution offers this annual $500 scholarship to direct descendants of a United States Military Veteran. 
​Horatio Alger Scholarships National and State
Application Period: December 1 - March 1
​Those looking to apply must: Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation. Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution). Demonstrate critical financial need ($65,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required). Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities. Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and be a United States citizen.
​AGC SD Construction Scholarship
​Application Period: December 5, 2025 - March 31, 2026
​The Associated General Contractors of South Dakota Highway-Heavy-Utilities Chapter (AGC) is committed to providing scholarships for students pursuing a career in a construction-related education program at a college/university or technical institute.
Dakota Corps Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: December 15, 2025
The Dakota Corps Scholarship is a scholarship program funded by private business, non-profit corporations and the Governor's Office.  It was established to encourage South Dakota's high school graduates to: 
1. Obtain their post-secondary education in South Dakota;
2. Remain in the state upon completion of their education; and 
3. Contribute to the state of South Dakota and its citizens by working in a critical need occupation.

Build Dakota Scholarship
Scholarship Window: January 1, 2026 - March 31, 2026
​Build Dakota is a scholarship program created for skilled scholars entering high-demand programs at South Dakota technical colleges — allowing South Dakotans to earn their degrees for free.
SD JCI Senate Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: January 12. 2026
The SD JCI Senate organization awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary college, university or vocational school. The SD JCI Senate awards three place winners: 1st place winner $500.00, 2nd Place winner $300.00, and 3rd place winner $200.00

Winning applications will be forwarded to the US JCI Senate Foundation scholarship program for further judging.  Foundation scholarship awards are up to $1500.00.
​Eastern Chapter of the South Dakota Engineering Society
Scholarship Deadline: January 16, 2026
​For high school seniors applying to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology or South Dakota State University for engineering. 
​Sioux Valley Energy
​Scholarship Deadline: January 16, 2026
Scholarships are awarded to dependents of Sioux Valley Energy customers. There is also a scholarship for students interested in the power line work field. 
CHS Scholarship Application for HS Seniors
Scholarship Deadline: January 16, 2026
Open to high school seniors from the local CHS trade area who will be a full-time student in an accredited college or vocational technical school this fall with a major or minor in an agricultural field.
CHS Scholarship for CHS Employee and Producer Board member students
Scholarship Deadline: January 16, 2016
Open to a high school senior whose parent is an employee or producer board member of CHS (Brandon), and will be a full-time student in an accredited college or vocational technical school this fall with a major or minor in an agricultural field.
SD High School Oratorical Scholarship Program
Scholarship Deadline for District Contests: January 25, 2026
All contestants and coaches should be familiar with the rules for American Legion oratory as defined in the national brochure Annual High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, “A Constitutional Speech Contest.'

NWTF Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: February 1, 2026
National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship -
The Sioux Falls Chapter (East Dakota) of the National Wild Turkey Federation will offer a $1,000 scholarship to a local HS Senior. The Chapter winner goes on to South Dakota State competition for an additional $1,000. If the student is selected as the South Dakota State winner their application is forwarded to National for the $10,000 scholarship. The purpose of the Scholarship program is to recognize and reward a high school senior for their academic achievement, community involvement and leadership roles. 
​Poet's Never Satisfied Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: ​February 13. 2026
POET Never Satisfied Scholarships are open to students enrolled in any SD two- or four-year post-secondary school, regardless of major or GPA. Never Satisfied Scholars receive up to $5,000 each, and will have the opportunity to visit the POET Sioux Falls campus during the school year.
​Ramia Boersma Scholarship
​Scholarship Deadline: February 15, 2026
Every year the SD Education Association sponsors scholarships to support high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in education. This  scholarship can be renewed for 4 years.  Ramia Boersma applicants must be the son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of an SDEA or SDEA Retired member.  
Educators Rising Scholarship
​Scholarship Deadline: February 15, 2026
SDEA/NEA awards scholarships to high school students who are planning on entering the teaching profession. The Association may annually award up to two $500 scholarships for each academic year. ​
​Gordon Horgen Scholarship
​Scholarship Deadline: February 15, 2026
​Every year the SD Education Association sponsors scholarships to support high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in education.  This scholarships can be renewed for 4 years.  The Gordon Horgen Scholarship supports Native American students interested in a career in education.
​Ty Eschenbaum Foundation Scholarship
​Scholarship Deadline: February 15, 2026
​Scholarship open to applicants diagnosed with a from of cancer at any point during their life. Open to all high school seniors graduating from a South Dakota school district, attending post-secondary education of their choosing.
SD American Legion Educational Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: February 15, 2026
Children and grandchildren of veterans are eligible to apply along with veterans.  Scholarships will be paid to the Recipient and the Post secondary school that they attend after the completion of the 1st semester.

AGtegra Agricultural Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: February 27, 2026
High school seniors or former students who are planning to or are currently attending a post-secondary institution in South Dakota or North Dakota for an agricultural degree/career path, are encouraged to apply for the scholarship program awarding ten $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and one $1,000 scholarship to a current college student through this program.
BBB Integrity Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: February 28, 2026
The Better Business Bureau of the Midwest Plains is awarding 20 scholarship of $2000 each. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan on attending college, vocational school, or technical program.

Junior Achievement of SD Leo Crawford Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2026
Must be a high school senior, graduating before June 30th of the current school year. Participated in any JA Program during applicatant's K-12 education, including the high school JA Ethics program.  
Thelma Foster Junior Scholarship - American Legion Auxiliary
Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2026
There will be one scholarship award in the amount of $300 to a Junior American Legion Auxiliary member. This scholarship is awarded to Junior Members who are not over the age of 18. If applying for this scholarship then you do not apply for the Thelma Foster Senior Scholarship which is for members that are 19 years old or older. This Scholarship is based on the age not the year in school.
American Legion Auxiliary - $500 Scholarship for College/University or Technical Institute
Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2026
South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary shall award annually two $500 scholarship for a college/university and two $500 scholarship for technical institutions, in order to further education beyond high school level.
​Citi Youth Leadership Awards
Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2026
Must be a senior at a Sioux Empire high school. Must have contributed at least 100 hours of service within the past 12 months. Eligible service may include: service with community/religious organizations; service through school/community based service-learning projects or individual efforts to help others and/or improve the community. This service cannot include fundraising, lobbying, or paid/stipend service.
​Horatio Alger Association Career & Technical Scholarship
Application Period: March 15 - June 15
​Those looking to apply must: Have completed high school or plan to complete high school with plans to enroll at a non-profit post-secondary institution. Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States. Demonstrate critical financial aid. Demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity. Be involved in community service activities.
Blanche Irene Doolittle Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2026
​The committee will select scholarship recipients based upon grade point average, financial need, extracurricular activities abilities, and character. The "whole student" is taken into consideration based upon the written application form, the family's most resent IRS For 1040 tax return, letters of recommendation and high school transcript.  
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation Scholarships

Administer and award more than 70 scholarships to deserving students each year.
​First Bank & Trust Scholarship Application
Scholarship Deadline: March 27, 2026
An applicant must be a high school senior or full-time undergraduate student, attending an accredited post high school educational institution. Have not previously received a First Bank & Trust Scholarship. Employees and members of the Board of Directors of First Bank & Trust, its affiliates, and the immediate families (spouse, parents, siblings and children, and each of their respective spouses regardless of where they live) and persons living in the households of each of these individuals, whether related or not, are not eligible. Be a First Bank & Trust checking or savings account holder.
Clark County Riders
Scholarship Deadline: March 31, 2026
Each year the Clark County  Riders MC offers three vocational education scholarships to high school seniors attending a South Dakota vocational technical college. One scholarship is offered to a Clark county graduate. Two additional scholarships are offered to seniors graduating from communities where our members live. Immediate family of CCR MC members are not eligible to receive the scholarship.
​SDSTE Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a high school senior who either has a current member of SDSTE in their district or has a parent who is a current member of SDSTE.  The student should be planning to go into the field of Educational or Informational Technology.

SDAPHCC Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: April 1, 2026
South Dakota Association of Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling Contractors Educational Foundation Scholarship is to help individuals prepare for careers in the plumbing, heating, and cooling industry.  This scholarship is particularly intended for students enrolled in trade related training programs in the state of South Dakota.

​Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE)
​Scholarship Deadline: April 2, 2026
This award is presented annually to graduating high school students. These annual scholarships were established to benefit high school graduates who will attend an accredited college, university or technical college and major in a construction-related field. Scholarship winners must reside within the counties of Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha or Turner and have applied for acceptance into a college or trade school curriculum within the home building industry or related fields.
Plains Commerce Bank Scholarship
Plains Commerce Bank, Sioux Falls Branch, has (2) $1000 scholarships available to be awarded to a graduating high school senior who plans on attending a post-secondary SD college, university, or vocational technical school on a full-time basis.
​ISL Midwest Senior Scholarship
To be eligible, students must be current high school seniors from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin who attend college. They may attend any eligible U.S. college either virtually or physically. Students do not need to attend an Iowa college or university to be eligible.
Voyage Federal Credit Union
To be eligible, students must be graduating high school senior, have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA , and be a primary Voyage FCU member in good standing. The member must live, work or worship in Lincoln or Minnehaha county.  For use by full-time students enrolled in an accredited college, university, trade, or technical school.
The Restoration of Sight & Health Scholarship
​Qualified applicants must be pursuing an education in a field related to the Mission of Dakota Lions Sight & Health (Helping to Enable the Restoration of the Gifts of Sight & Health) - this may include health professions, science and research, social services, philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, etc.

SFWR will award scholarships to female Sioux Falls area seniors who have demonstrated a love for running and a commitment to the sport of running and the running community. See application instructions for details.
Smithfield Foods Educational Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: May 15, 2026
Smithfield Foods is proud to provide educational scholarships to eligible dependents of their full-time or retired employees. Smithfield Foods partners with SDSU, USD, and the out-of-state colleges listed on their site for a scholarship opportunity for students accepted to a partner school.
​Unity Lodge 130 Scholarship
Unity Lodge #130 A.F. & A.M., Sioux Falls, SD, will award scholarships each year to Minnehaha and Lincoln County (SD) residents, or direct descendants of a Unity Lodge member, to attend a public or private college, university, or technical school in South Dakota. Successful candidates will demonstrate financial need and scholastic ability. Preference will be given to those having a connection, by blood or marriage, to a member of the Masonic fraternity, living or deceased.
South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship
Scholarship ​Initial Eligibility Deadline: Complete this application preferably by June 1st when establishing eligibility for the Fall term and November 1st for the Spring term.​​​  Applications may be submitted no later than September 1st for those seeking initial enrollment during the Fall term, and no later than January 15th for those seeking initial enrollment during the Spring term.  
Students seeking to establish their initial eligibility in the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship program must complete the application provided on the Scholarship Portal. To apply, students will log in to the SD Board of Regents Scholarship Portal. 

Summer

American Legion BaseBall Scholarship
Scholarship Deadline: July 15, 2026
The American Legion awards between $22,000 and $25,000 in scholarships to deserving baseball players each year. Each Department Baseball Committee may select a player from its department to receive this scholarship. The American Legion will award several scholarships each year depending on the number of applicants and interest earned from the trust fund.
